    Molweni Outreach Program

    Molweni Eco-club

A key goal of the Kloof Conservancy is to engender a passion for the environment in all members of the public in line with our motto: Protecting nature. Inspiring change.

We run a number of initiatives aimed at educating the public on the value of our environment (including the Indigenous Open Gardens, Back-to-Nature Events Series, Molweni River Health Schools Project, supporting our Special Venture Partners, and publishing our e-newsletters and The Leopard’s Echo).

We have taken these initiatives a step further with the establishment of the Molweni Eco-club.

We have partnered with an NGO in Molweni – Uvemvane Lwe-Afrika (butterflies of Africa) – and at this stage the Molweni Eco-club involves 70 school children from 3 primary schools in Molweni. Bazamile and Lamula in Lower Molweni and Sizimisele in Upper Molweni.

The children meet for environmental education sessions at each school once per week with the focus on the following key environmental issues:

    • Litter reduction,
    • Biodiversity protection (including education on the devastation caused by illegal hunting/poaching)
    • River health.

As of March 2023, the project is being piloted for a 6 month period and we hope to make it a permanent feature of our education program in Molweni.
