Back-to-Nature Moth Evening
More informationCome and join us for an evening of information on Moths including a talk by one of SA's foremost experts on the subject, Herman Staude.
Moth traps will be set and after the talk the traps will be visited and the contents discussed!
Bring your own picnic basket - a braai fire will be available.
Entry Fee: R40 adults, R20 children under 12 - all proceeds will be donated to the Millar Tiger Moth Project.
There are 3 parts to the evening:
16:00 to 18:00 Display (including live stock) and information on moths - there will be a number of Lepsoc representatives on hand to answer questions/give information so if you are interested in Moths (and butterflies) then this is an ideal opportunity to interact with experts. During this period moth-traps will be set-up and again this is a good opportunity to learn about how the traps work and how to handle them. There will be posters and books on sale.
18:00 to 19:00 Talk by Herman Staude - "The Caterpillars that Save our Lives" - Herman is one of the most knowledgeable experts on moths and butterflies in the country so his talks are always fascinating and enjoyable.
19:00 until late - we will light some braai fires and you are welcome to bring-and-braai and then stay to visit the moth traps during the course of the night and see what is in the traps and discuss the findings with the experts on hand.
We cannot control the weather so if it is raining heavily then the last part of the evening may have to be cancelled - we may also have to shift the time of the talk slightly if there is load-shedding but the evening will go ahead even if it rains.
All funds raised will be donated to the Millar's Tiger Moth Project which ultimately plans to re-introduce this moth to our area so do support the event!
